Oliver Weingarten, Ph.D., specializes in Classical Chinese philology and intellectual and cultural history. Among other projects, he is now preparing research on representations of and view on courage in early China. In his contribution to the project he will investigate exhortations to social and ethical conformity; justifications of social and ethical norms; representations of courage and cowardice; self-harm, self-sacrifice, and suicide; representations and justifications of violence in ancient China.
